REFLECTION

Experiences : Finally, it came to the end of the semester! Throughout all these weeks, I got to experience with designing, printing and publishing a book. Also, I did try to come up with the visuals style that I have never tried before which is one of my great achievements this semester. I did face a lot of challenges and struggles when completing the assignments but I managed to go through it with the help of my friends as well as the lecturer. Meanwhile, I would need to update the e-portfolio to document the progress of my work every week. I found this to be useful as I could reflect on the work that I have done weekly as well as to see my improvements and growth in the work. On the contrary, it also helps me to improve my writing skills which benefits me a lot. However, there are some bad experiences I faced when using the blogger. I need to document the progress not only for this module but other modules as well. At this crucial time, the blogger overwrites my previous post which definitely made me feel frustrated and depressed at the time. Till now, it still happens to me and there is no way to recover the post back :) Hence,  the only thing I could do is to back up each of my posts once I finish writing.

Observations : I found these 14 weeks is really tough as the workload of all the modules is considered too heavy to me. In addition to my personality that always want to push myself further and the high expectations I have on my work leads me to stress and depress which I don't want to. But still life has to go on and the work still needs to be submitted. Therefore, I tried to stop myself from being too harsh and did my best to complete all the assignments. Other than that, I observed that the bits of knowledge and skills that I gained from Typography and Advanced Typography class have helped me a lot when formatting the text for the book. The only difficult part of this module for me is to generate the contents as well as animate the visuals since I'm not good with writing and animation.

Findings : I learned that designing and publishing a book is not an easy job as there are lots of aspects that a designer requires to think of including a grid system, font size, line spacing and more. The most challenging part is that the designer not only needs to create a variety of layouts across the pages to enhance the reader's reading experience but also maintain the consistency in the design. Besides that, I managed to discover my strengths and weakness through this module. I found that I did better in creating the layout than animating the visuals and there still room for improvement. Just like what Mr. Vinod said, to become a good designer we need to master every aspect of the design including animation. Hence, I think I really need to push myself more to learn about animation.
