LECTURE
Lecture 1 : Introduction to the module
03/04/19 (Week 1)
In the first class, Ms Lilian started off the class by giving us a brief on the module outline as well as explaining on what we will be doing in the upcoming weeks.
Lecture 2 : History of Brand
10/03/19 (Week 2)
This week, we were given a short lecture about the history of brand. It is said that brands have been around for a long time and they were used centuries ago as an identifier for ownership. However, the emergence of brands in the commercial world is said to be after the industrial revolution. Through the presentation slides, we also got to see the different stages of brand development and some examples of brands.

Lecture 3 : Anatomy of Identity
24/04/19 (Week 4)
In this class, Ms Lilian gave us a lecture about the anatomy of identity which is the different aspects that we would need to know in the creation of brand identity. These aspects included logo, visual, typography, colour as well as grid and guides. Logo is a distinguishing mark designed for a company, product or service and it is said to be important in creating association and recognition with our brand. Visual is the use of imagery to create a visual language for a company has become increasingly popular. It can be used to grab attention or interest of the consumer towards our brand. Typography in branding is the choice and arrangement of an existing appropriate typeface or design of a bespoke typeface. It got to make our brand look good and unique. As for the colour, it is one of the most important aspects of a identity design to evoke the personality of our brand. To strengthen the potential of our brand, we need to consider that the colour have great impact, meaning and presence. Through the lecture, we also got to look at different examples of brand identity with different aspects in the slides.

Scrapbook (Week 1 - Week 6)
For this project, we were required to collect 20 logos and document them digitally in google slides weekly. The logos can be found from anywhere like flyers, price tags, labels, packaging and so on. Then, we will need to study about them based on the graphic elements, typography and colours with their background story.

FEEDBACK
Week 2
Specific Feedback : I was told that my study for the 20 logos are just based on visual now so that I would need to criticise them with my opinion and thoughts for the next one. In addition, I should always list out the sources if the information was collected through research.
Week 3
Specific Feedback : I received the feedback that I would need to expand my analysis for next week slides by researching more about the brand background and history as well as to relate them with my cultural context. Also, include more about my opinion and link it with what I know about the brand.
Week 4
Specific Feedback : Ms Lilian commented that I could strengthen my analysis by doing more research and including the facts about the brand. Moreover, make the analysis and interpretation coherence.
Week 5
Specific Feedback : Overall the analysis is good. Ms Lilian asked me to keep up with my work and find the last 20 logos to analysis.
REFLECTION
Experiences : I found this project is quite fun and interesting to me as I got to see and collect different logos everyweek. At first it was easy to find the logos around but it gets challenging after few weeks. Therefore, I ended up going out everyweek to find the logos. Other than collecting, I would need to analyse and study the story behind the logos as well as giving my opinion about them. I found this is challenging to me in the beginning as I don't know what is the right words to describe it but I get used to it after few weeks.
Observations : I realised I tend to analyse the logos just based on their visuals in the first few weeks. But after consulting with Ms Lilian, I started to push myself to do more research on the background and history of the brand as well as to be more critical when analysing them. From here, I found that I took up more time to analyse them with the research as compared to visuals but it did help me in understanding more about the brand.
Findings : I found that logo plays a huge role in the success of the brand as they represent what the brand is about and establish the brand recognition to help the customers to remember the brand. Also, an effective logo is not just about the look but the way they represent and reflect the brand and its brand identity. Therefore, a designer can't design the logo in the way just because they like but to consider the meaning and story behind the brand.
